Our Mission and Philosophy
We firmly believe that every child is different. Through the values of the YMCA, Camp Hi-Rock is dedicated to the growth and development of the spirits, minds and bodies of the participants we serve. We see each person as a unique individual with his or her own needs, aptitudes, and interests, which can be further developed through the camping experience. We seek to help each camper utilize his or her identity and sense of personal worth and responsibility as a cooperative member of a group. In addition, we want campers to discover, learn, and cultivate new skills, develop healthy lifestyles, create meaningful relationships, and become more caring, honest, respectful and responsible people. This simple direct philosophy has proven itself through our tremendous growth and very high return rate of our participants. The most impressive evidence of our success is in the growth of our campers.
Our Programs
- Overnight Camp -- Hi-Rock campers are grouped into units according to gender and age. Our blend of supervised cabin, unit, and all-camp activities, along with individual choice programs, provides a customized personal experience for younger and older campers alike. Campers can even request to be bunked with a friend from home. The Camp Hi-Rock staff will design coaching periods to meet individual needs while developing in-depth skills. Campers choose up to four activities during a sign-up period at the start of each week. Separate from these coaching periods, campers will also take part in separate cabin and unit activities, as well as activities as an entire camp.
- Day Camp -- Since 1948, YMCA Camp Hi-Rock has served youth with its resident camping programs. Now, day campers can experience that unique camp life, with one exception: they get to sleep at home in their own beds at night! Each day, the caring and creative Day Camp staff provide a safe and enriching program for 5 -- 12 year olds on our beautiful mountain site! The fun begins at 9:00 AM and continues until 4:00 PM. With field games, arts and crafts, swimming, and more, the summer will fly by. A constantly changing program and options for camper choice keep our Day Camp exciting, whether your camper comes for a week or for the entire summer. An overnight is held once every two weeks to add to the fun!
