Finish The Year Fit

10 Week Healthy Lifestyle Course Starting Oct 30

Are you dreading the holidays in fear of going backwards or losing all of the hard work you’ve accomplished this year? Then this program is for you! Join the 10 Week Healthy Lifestyle course starting on Oct 30! Each week we will meet for a classroom based learning objective where we will teach you healthy eating habits and exercise goals to help you maintain your progress for the end of the year. You will also receive a thirty minute personal training session once per week and a small group training class each week, as well. Set the goal to lose weight or maintain your weight through the holidays to win special prizes! Special incentives for participants who are able to keep 100% participation throughout the ten weeks!

Program Includes:

  • Workout and Nutrition Journal
  • A free 30-min personal training session per week (a $430 value!)
  • 1 Small group training sessions per week exclusively for program participants

Diabetes and You

The Woodruff Family Y is pleased to partner with ShopRite’s dietician Kristen Haight to present an informative lecture on Type 2 Diabetes and how to properly manage your diabetes through nutrition and exercise. A pharmacist will also be available to answer any questions you may have regarding common medications you may be using for diabetes and how they affect your body!  Bring your lunch and join us to learn on how to live a healthier life with Type 2 diabetes!

Cycle Together

Cycle Together is a huge calorie burner. It’s a 60-minute cycling experience brought indoors. Chase the pack, spin the flats, climb mountains and sprint to the finish. Feel the thrill of energetic music and group dynamics as you get all the benefits of interval training.

Balance & Flex Together will grow you longer and stronger with an invigorating 60-minute mind-body workout.  It incorporates yoga and Pilates fundamentals with athletic training for balance, mobility, flexibility and the core. Strength Train Together

Strength Train TogetherLift. Press. Curl. Get Stronger and Power Up!

Strength Train Together will blast all your muscles with a high-rep weight training workout. Using an adjustable barbell, weight plates and body weight, the workout combines squats, lunges, presses, and curls with functional integrated exercises.  Dynamic music and a motivating group atmosphere will get your heart rate up, make you sweat, and push you to a personal best! Getting Started Details

Get F.I.T.

Free Introductory Training

As a New Y Member, we would like you to achieve your wellness goals and get the most out of your Y investment.  Please sign up for F.I.T. (Free Introductory Training) Sessions so that we can help you get started.

Session #1:  Let’s spend some time getting to know each other.  Session Goals:        

  • Understand your goals and expectations together so that we can develop an action plan to ensure your success.
  • Get to know your dedicated F.I.T. Coach, who is here to serve you!
  • Answer any questions you may have about wellness, equipment and our facility.
  • Teach some basic tips so you can hit the ground running.
  • Start working towards your wellness goals and having some fun!

Session #2:  You’ve begun working towards your goals and you’re starting to get comfortable. After spending some time on your own, it’s natural to have some questions. This critical meeting will help you recognize and overcome the most common obstacles to healthy living.  Session Goals:   

  • Review your progress toward your wellness goals and expectations.
  • If you’re interested, learn some innovative tips to help you progress even faster.
  • Discuss potential barriers.
  • Explore and focus.

Session #3:  You’ve gained important knowledge and begun to implement a solid wellness strategy. You’ve made progress, now it’s all about sustaining your improved, healthier lifestyle. This meeting is about maintaining your new habits and keeping up with success over time.  Session Goals:

  • Define and commit to goals.
  • Establish assessment and guideposts to measure progress.

Reframing Goals Can Lead to Success

As a community-serving organization, we see how things such as getting involved in with the community and making lifestyle changes can change someone’s life for the better. Here are five recommends:

  1. Swap a Soda a Day: It may be difficult, but cutting soda can do wonders for your body. If you can’t cut it entirely, resolve to swap one soda a day for a large glass of water instead. Once you’ve been able to swap one out, see if you can cut soda out entirely.
  2. Volunteer Your Time: Giving back and supporting neighbors can benefit everyone involved. Not only is it a personally rewarding experience to help others in need, but it’s also a way to meet new people or discover an interest. Find an opportunity in your community, such as reading to children at the library or distributing food at a local food bank – or ask us at the Y!
  3.  Schedule Family-Time: With work, school and activities family-time may seem like an impossible task, but see if your family can have a “screen-free” night with no phones, video games, etc. Instead, use that time to play a board game, play outside or visit with family and friends.
  4.  Move More: It’s important for children to get at least 60 minutes of physical activity each day (30 minutes for adults). Incorporate physical activity into your daily routines and spend more time walking to places instead of driving to improve your health and well-being.
  5.  Put Extras to Good Use: Do you have extra canned goods or clothes that could benefit others in need? Clean out your pantry, closet or attic and donate extra items to homeless shelters or community outreach programs.

Aqua Zumba

Splash your way into shape with an invigorating low-impact aquatic exercise.  Known as the Zumba® “pool party,” the Aqua Zumba program gives new meaning to the idea of a refreshing workout.  Integrating the Zumba philosophy with traditional aquatic fitness disciplines, Aqua Zumba® blends it all together into a workout that’s cardio-conditioning, body-toning, and most of all, exhilaration beyond belief. Stay Active Be Healthy Keep Having Fun

Silver Sneaker and Silver and Fit Members:  We are glad that you are being active and having fun with friends here at the Y!  To help you stick with it we are offering a new program.

Pick up a new Loyalty Card each month. Have it punch each day you come to the Y to get moving. At the end of the month if you have 10 punches turn it in your card. You will have a chance to win a gift card from a local merchant!

 


New Beginnings Start Here!

New Beginnings Program

A supportive environment to promote friendship and group exercise

For many the thought of starting a group exercise program is intimidating. The Woodruff Family Y has a program called New Beginnings to encourage individuals to make new friends, become part of a group, and learn to incorporate exercise into their lifestyle.

101 Classes:  These 30 minute entry level classes will be small in size. Basic exercises and equipment will be introduced. Free for members! Check out our Group X Schedule located on our Schedules page for specific days and times.


Your Goals Are Important to Us!

Personal Training

Whether you are 15 or 75, an experienced or beginning exerciser, personal training can help you reach your health and fitness goals. Our certified personal trainers will help develop an individualized program that is perfect for you and will support you with expert knowledge, coaching and motivation to help you look, feel and live better.

Registration: Personal Training sessions for Y Facility Members only; are sold in one hour increments and are scheduled between members and trainers.  To schedule your training & more information please call the Y.

Programs:

  • After the first 1 hour initial training, each session can be divided into 30-minutes sessions.
    2 hours: $86 / 4 hours: $160
  • Basic Training Package: $240 initial or $225 renewal. Five one hour workout sessions, recommended for those already on a fitness based program, who need a “tune up”. Also included is one nutritional consultation.
  • Deluxe Training Package: $450 initial/ $425 renewal. Ten one hour workout sessions and two nutrition sessions. We will get you started on a fitness plan and provide nutritional guidance for you throughout your ten sessions.
  • Fitness Planning: $70.  You will receive thirty minutes of fitness testing and assessment along with thirty minutes discussing your results and creating a plan. You will walk away with your very own fitness road map or best course of action based on your assessment results.
  • Group training also available.

Kardio Kickboxing

Powerful kickbox and martial arts type movements put together for the ultimate calorie burning class. Check out the schedules page of our web site for class days and times.


TRX Boot Camp

Boot camp will promise an intense workout that incorporates body weight strength training using the TRX Suspension Training, kettle bells and weights.  Paired with short bursts of high intensity cardio that will strengthen and tone all major muscle groups.


Group Exercise Classes

Ages: 14 and up

Indoor Cycling

An instructor-led class takes place on an ultra-smooth stationary bike.  You are taken on a mental and physical journey that urges you on to new levels of strength and endurance.  The combination of music, motivation and your fellow riders makes this class unique and results oriented.  A water bottle and towel are strongly recommended.


Youth/Parent Cardio Orientation

This is a program for 10 and 11 year olds that consists of one 1-hour appointment with a Fit Trainer. They will teach the youth how to safely and effectively use the cardiovascular equipment and body weight/core training. Upon completion the youth will be able to use the cardio equipment when accompanied by an adult. Note: Depending on the youths height they may not safely fit on some of the equipment. The trainer will determine this.


Youth/Parent Fitness Orientation

Orientations designed for youth 12 and 13 years old with a parent/guardian. A Fit Trainer will instruct participants on how to safely and effectively use the Cardio & specified strength equipment. Upon completion of the four sessions, the youth will be allowed to use the fitness center when accompanied by the adult.


Silver Sneakers®

The Woodruff Family YMCA is pleased to offer the SilverSneakers® Fitness Program. SilverSneakers is the nation’s leading exercise program designed exclusively for older adults and is available at no additional cost (beyond any monthly premium) to eligible Medicare health plan and group retiree members.  Eligible members have a complimentary membership to the Woodruff Family YMCA.
