YMCA Diabetes Prevention Program

The YMCA’s Diabetes Prevention Program helps adults at high risk of developing type 2 diabetes reduce their risk for developing the disease by taking steps that will improve their overall health and well-being.  Research by the National Institutes of Health has shown that programs like the YMCA’s Diabetes Prevention Program can reduce the number of new cases of type 2 diabetes by 58%, and 71% in adults over the age of 60. School Age Before/After School Program

Engage Beyond the School Day!  Register now for the School Year!

You can relax knowing that with us, your kids are getting their daily dose of fun, homework assistance, character development, cultural enrichment and fitness with the Y.  We offer Comprehensive State Certified After School Program for youth in Kindergarten through 6th grade.

The YMCA offers Before and After School Child Care for students who attend Stratford public schools.

Family Registration Fee:  $50 non-refundable.  This is an annual fee that is due at the time of registration.

Before School Care

Before School Care is offered at the YMCA, Stratford Academy (Johnson and Honeyspot) and Wilcoxson.  Busing to school is provided.  Drop off for this program begins at 6:45 am

Time:  6:45 am until the start of the school day

Cost:  Members:  $200/per month; Community members:  $300/per month

After School Care

The program also provides care on regularly scheduled half days.  Chapel, Eli Whitney, Franklin, Nichols, Second Hill Lane, Wilcoxson and Johnson House at Stratford Academy.  Lordship and Honeyspot are bused by the Board of Education to Stratford Academy.

Time:  Dismissal until 6:00pm.


5 days/week:  Members:  $260/per month; Non-members:  $390/per month

3 days/week:  Members:  $170/per month; Non-members:  $255/per month

Care 4 Kids helps low to moderate income families in Connecticut pay for child care costs. This program is sponsored by the State of Connecticut’s Department of Social Services (also called DSS).

BSY Torpedo Swim Team

2015-2016 Short Course Season 9/8/15-3/20/16

The cost of the season is $400 for Bronze, $275 for Silver, $510 for Junior II, $565 for Junior Is, and $625 for Seniors. You may either pay in full for the season and receive a 10% discount, or elect to pay for the season in monthly segments.  The first segment will be due at registration.  All other segments will be due on the first of the month, paid through an automatic draft.


If your child is interested in joining our swim team, they will need to be evaluated by our coaching staff for proper placement in one of our four levels. Please contact Coach Matt at to schedule an evaluation.


Members of YMCA competitive teams must have full-privilege YMCA memberships. A swimmer must be a member in good standing of his/her YMCA for 30 days prior to competing for that YMCA in a meet. The swimmer must be a member in good standing of his/her YMCA for 90 days prior to representing that YMCA in a district, regional, state or national championship meet. Membership must last from the time of registration to the last day of the swim season. The membership will continue until you submit a termination request in writing with a 48-hour notice and only after your child completes their swim season. Please contact the Y for further details on membership prices, hours, and programs offered.

Financial Assistance

Program financial assistance is available for qualified members through our Financial Assistance program, funded by the Annual Campaign. This confidential scholarship assistance application is available at Member Services and on-line at

BSY Torpedo Levels

Bronze:  In this group, swimmers will become acclimated to a competitive swimming environment. Practices will focus on stroke technique with instruction at a level-appropriate pace. Swimmers will also learn terminology as we incorporate the Y core values of Respect, Honesty, Responsibility, and Caring into swim practices.  Ages: 6-10.  Maximum: 30 swimmers

Silver:  In Silver, we focus on building endurance while still teaching stroke technique. Swimmers in this group are required to know and perform all four competitive strokes. We will incorporate a set-based workout in order to prepare our swimmers for the next level.  Ages: All.  Maximum: 30 swimmers

Juniors:  Juniors will consist of our most advanced age-group swimmers. Practices are designed to build endurance and improve speed so swimmers can compete at a very high level.  Ages: 12/Under. Maximum: 20 swimmers

Seniors:  This group consists of our most elite and dedicated swimmers that can perform all four strokes competitively. Practices are designed to drop times and maximize the swimmers’ competitive abilities.  Ages: 13/Over.  Maximum: 20 swimmers

Y Fun Club

On days when Stratford Public Schools are closed for inclement weather, the Stratford Y offers programming for school-age children. Located at the main YMCA, and students can spend the day in a safe and fun environment challenging their friends to board games, creating art projects, swimming, and much more.  Pre-register today for our Y Fun Club, date to-be-determined. We will accept children as space and staff requirements allow.

Children need to bring a nut-free lunch, a bathing suit and towel, and appropriate clothes to play outdoors (snow clothes, extra pants, socks, boots, hats, gloves, etc.).

Ages: Grades K-6

Time:  8 am – 6 pm

Zumba® Kids

The Zumba® Kids program is the ultimate dance-fitness party for kids where they can play it loud and rock with friends! This program features age-appropriate music and moves that get kids movin’ to the beat. It’s all about feeling fearless on the dance floor, reinforcing the idea that it’s okay to just be yourself and dance like no one’s watching. Preregistration is required.

AGES: 5 – 8

FEES: Members $40/Community $80

NAEYC Accredited Preschool Program

Learn Grow Thrive

Ages: 3-4 years

Our preschool program uses the CT Preschool Curriculum and Assessment Framework.  Our preschool provides a wide variety of opportunities for each child to explore and learn in a safe and nurturing environment designed to meet each child’s individual need.

Activities include:

  • Indoor/outdoor movement
  • Arts and crafts
  • Science
  • Field trips
  • Story time
  • Music and movement
  • Circle time with Preschool learning and Kindergarten readiness

To be enrolled, children must be three years of age by December 31, and must be fully toilet trained.  A $50 non-refundable Family Registration Fee is due at the time of registration.

Half Day Preschool:
9:00 a.m. – 12:45 p.m.  Members $320.00/month  Community Participants $480.00/month

Full Day Preschool:
9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.  Members $580.00/month  Community Participants $870.00/month
