Camp

Camping at the Y offers an Experience for children and teens, not just care.

Exploring nature, swimming, shooting bows & arrows and making new friends are just some aspects of the experience of participating in Day Camp.  As summer approaches, the Lakewood-Trumbull  Y reminds parents that camping is a unique and invaluable experience for children and teens.

At Day Camp through the Y, campers will try things they have never tried before, build a relationship with our caring staff or a new friend, and of course, HAVE LOTS OF FUN!  We don’t just sit in front of a TV all day, we enjoy nature, play games, learn songs, develop new skills, and we experience camp!

According to our friends at the Y, there are five reasons why kids should experience summer camp:

  1. ADVENTURE: Summer camp is all about a wide variety of fun adventures and new experiences, and especially exploring the outdoors. YMCA camps have a new adventure for every child and teen.
  2. HEALTHY FUN: Day and resident camps offer fun, stimulating activities that engage the body and mind, and also help children and teens learn the importance of nutrition to help improve their eating habits.
  3. PERSONAL GROWTH: While being away from the routine back home, youth have a chance to learn new skills and develop confidence and independence by taking on new responsibilities and challenges.
  4. NEW FRIENDSHIPS: Amidst the fun of camp games, songs, swimming, field trips, arts & crafts and talent shows, campers meet new friends and strengthen existing friendships.
  5. MEMORIES: Summer camp is an unforgettable experience that will give each camper memories and stories that will last a lifetime.  Youth return to school with plenty of stories to share!

The Lakewood-Trumbull Y provides exciting and educational camp programming for children and teens, and their parents, at Camp Tepee.

To ensure that every child and teen has the chance to go to camp, the Lakewood-Trumbull YMCA offers financial assistance to those in need.  We believe that no one should be turned away because of their inability to pay. Come, let us help!

Sleepaway Camp

AD5V9671Hi-Rock is THE sleepaway camp for the Central Connecticut Coast YMCA.

That means it’s your sleepaway camp. Summer camp can change a child’s life. For more than sixty years, YMCA Camp Hi-Rock has provided an enchanting mountaintop environment where campers build positive memories that sustain them for a lifetime and have experiences that leave an indelible mark on their character. Our goal is to challenge and nurture the individual, build self-esteem, instill leadership and social skills, strengthen the body, lift the spirit, and sharpen the mind. We have a primary emphasis on friendship building. In our supportive atmosphere, campers learn to live together within a community governed by the character values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility. Experiences are managed in such a way that relationship building skills are taught and reinforced at every opportunity. As a result, campers form friendships that often last well beyond the summer, and gain the lasting self-confidence that comes with their newly found interpersonal skills.

Boy/Girls Outdoor Leadership Development

BOLD7Camp Hi-Rock is excited to offer our newest program, BOLD and GOLD.

BOLD and GOLD stands for Boys/Girls Outdoor Leadership Development.

In 2016, we were one of the first Y’s chosen across the country to help expand an incredible program that has been running in Seattle for the last 15 years. The BOLD GOLD program takes youth from a wide variety of economic backgrounds on week-long backpacking programs to develop their fullest leadership potential as positive, multicultural leaders in their communities. Our small groups (eight participants and two to three instructors) backpack in the wilderness and participate in activities that center around confidence, strength and identity, while also building outdoor survival skills.
