YMCA Typhoon Swim Team
The Typhoon Swim Team is one of the up and coming YMCA swim teams in Central Connecticut! With a growing roster of swimmers ages 5—18 years from Hamden, North Haven, and Bethany, the Typhoons are a fully sanctioned YMCA swim team that participates within the YMCA Yankee Cluster League. In this league, our swimmers have the opportunity to participate in tri, dual, and championship YMCA swim meets.
While our YMCA swim meets are separated by primarily age, our practice groups are separated by both age and ability level. The swim team practice groups are designed to bring out the maximum potential of every swimmer through in-water practices as well as dry-land practices, and practices are held at the main facility under the direction of Andy Scherer (Head Coach & Aquatic Director).
The primary goals of our swim team are: (1) to make sure all swimmers are learning, and improving with their peers during practice, and (2) to ensure that no swimmer feels out of place during our team practices and meets!
While we are a growing team, we still provide individual attention to each and every one of our swimmers! The coaching staff prides itself in proper stroke technique and racing technique, and strive for our swimmers to reach their fullest potential through having fun!
The Hamden North Haven Swim Team has one of the most supportive and involved Parents’ Associations. While working hand-in-hand with the coaching staff, the Parents’ Board acts as the swim team’s support system and continuously strives to look for ways to improve the swim team. The board organizes Typhoon swim team equipment, fundraisers, team-building events, banquets, and many other activities that truly benefit the swim team community of the Hamden North Haven YMCA Typhoons!
