Hamden/North
Haven YMCA
Membership
Coordinator
Deborah "Deb" Collins
Deborah has been
a Hamden resident her entire life. The YMCA was always a place
where she and her friends would come to swim and have fun. She
became an official member in 1998. Deborah started coming to
the Y to swim
laps and take Yoga classes. In 2000, she became employed by the
Hamden/North Haven YMCA as a Child Watch employee. In 2001 she
started working as a Member Service Representative and soon became
the Membership Coordinator, which is her present position.
Deborah
graduated from Southern Connecticut University with a Bachelors of
Science in Public Health. She worked at the Hospital of St. Raphael
for 3 years, where she focused on the geriatric population by
working with the 55+ program called "CareCard." Deborah also was a
medical secretary for the Cardiothoracic and Vascular Group in New
Haven for many years.
Deborah enjoys
working at the Hamden/North Haven YMCA for many reasons. It’s a
place where she can bring her children to play, meet friends and
learn how to swim. It’s also a place where she feels comfortable
and safe.
“I work with
great people who support me and help me to grow as a person. I used
to think of this place as the “cool spot for rich kids,” until I
grew up and realized that it’s a cool spot for all!”
